Background and Introduction

Can you provide a brief introduction to yourself and your current role within the carton and cartonboard industry?

I am the Sales Director at FOLBB, and I am responsible for several European markets. My journey in the packaging industry began in 2003, and over the years, I’ve worked in various sectors, from flexible packaging to aseptic cartons. Today, I focus on the cartonboard industry, which I consider the most environmentally friendly packaging solution.

How did you first become interested in this field, and what led you to your current career path?

My interest in this field grew as I explored different areas of the packaging industry. With each role, I became increasingly drawn to the potential of sustainable solutions. Eventually, I realised that working with cartonboard aligns perfectly with my passion for protecting the environment while addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging.

Your Career Journey

Can you describe the key milestones and experiences that have shaped your career in this industry?

A major milestone in my career was transitioning from sales roles in printing and converting to working in the raw materials segment. It was a completely different dynamic, requiring a new approach and a deep understanding of products and processes.

Were there any particular challenges or turning points that stand out in your professional journey?

The shift to raw materials was a significant challenge. I had to adjust to working with a new customer base—moving from end-users to converters and merchants—and learn an entirely different way of conducting business. It was an exciting but demanding period that ultimately expanded my skill set and opened new opportunities.

Daily Work and Responsibilities

What does a typical day or week in your current role look like?

If I’m not travelling or visiting customers, my day typically starts with reviewing sales numbers at multiple levels. I’ll check in with Customer Service to address any immediate issues and connect with customers on various topics. Every day is dynamic, and I enjoy the balance between operational tasks and strategic planning.

Are there any specific projects or initiatives you’ve been involved in recently that you find particularly exciting or innovative?

There’s always something new happening in this industry. Right now, I’m particularly excited about projects focused on plastic substitution. It’s a growing area of interest and a significant challenge, but our expertise enables us to provide tailored solutions that meet customer needs while advancing sustainability goals.

Industry Impact

How do you believe your work contributes to the sustainable and environmentally friendly aspects of cartonboard packaging?

Cartonboard is one of the most sustainable packaging materials available. Through my work, I’m not just delivering raw materials—I’m also promoting environmental awareness and encouraging eco-friendly choices. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my efforts contribute to a greener future.

What trends or developments in the industry are you most excited about, and how do they influence your work?

The industry’s ongoing commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility excites me the most. Whether it’s reducing carbon footprints or developing plastic-free packaging solutions, every step forward inspires me. Even small achievements in these areas make a big difference.
