This year, above all, the huge range of ideas was fascinating, and the two top winning films were absolute highlights: The carton family: a recycle story by Marco Scirè, Shailu Flammini, Stefania Squitieri and Aurora Italiano, and Cartonovella, by Moritz Hilker, Lærke Blix Hagemann, Kenneth Dumevi and Benedek Tikk. In this third year of the award, there was also a first-ever public vote.

The Pro Carton Student Video Award challenges students to create a short, entertaining video that explores the advantages of using cartons and cartonboard: promoting a product that is sustainable and can regrow. This year, there were 60 video submissions by schools and universities from 19 countries in Europe.

The winners were at last able to meet up in person – an incredible moment of joy after having to abstain for two years! The Award Gala was held in Poland for the first time: All winning students were there with their teachers to receive their awards.

The jury included director and film producer Bady Minck, leading international advertising and design expert Simon Bolton, and Winfried Muehling, General Manager of Pro Carton and expert on the global packaging and FMCG industry.

In their framework for assessing the shortlist, the judges took the following criteria into consideration:

  • Communication of Pro Carton’s core messages
  • Dramatic impact through idea creation and storytelling
  • Quality of film execution and crafting

The unique, high-quality approaches put the jury on the spot just as much as last year. And again it wasn’t possible to decide on one single winner! This year, there are two winners with two very different perspectives, as well as three „Highly Commended“ and four “Finalists”. RDM Group sponsored the award.

For the very first time this year, Pro Carton ran a public vote for the 2022 Pro Carton Student Video Award to give these creative works a wider stage. The winner of the public vote was Cartonovella.

Thanks to everyone who voted! We hope you enjoyed the films as much as we did!

See you again in 2023. Entries can already be submitted any time. Please get in touch with us! There are so many more stories to tell!

Pro Carton’s three awards – the European Excellence Award (jointly with ECMA), the Pro Carton Young Designers Award and the Pro Carton Student Video Award – are once again offering fascinating solutions both for consumers and the environment.

Swayed again by the amount of effort and thought that went into the ideas, Pro Carton decided to increase the prize fund once again – from the original €5000 to €6500. Each of the two winning video makers will receive €2500 with an additional €500 being given to the three highly commended videos. The Public Award Winner will receive a Go-Pro camera.

You can find all winning films on the Pro Carton website as well as photos and video interviews with the prize winners. Printed brochures in English showing all the winners are available from Pro Carton via mcewen@procarton.com.
