Carton of the Year 2025

Carton of the Year: Lumene 24 Nordic Beauty Secrets
by Van Genechten Packaging

For Carton of the Year, the chosen winner is Lumene 24 Nordic Beauty Secrets by Van Genechten Packaging.

An incredible design

The Lumene Advent Calendar, created by Van Genechten Packaging using Metsä Board cartonboard, draws inspiration from a traditional Nordic wreath, featuring a hexagonal tray with 24 puzzle-like boxes arranged in a spiral. The design uses varying heights and overhanging edges to create a sense of discovery. Made entirely from FSC-certified board, it is a mono-material solution. Delivered flat for efficient logistics, the packaging is fully recyclable. Visually, it evokes Nordic nature with snowy landscapes and native berries. Holographic foil and 3D embossing add festive shimmer and tactile appeal to the outer sleeve without compromising recyclability. This calendar is a seasonal statement piece that balances aesthetic and environmental goals for the brand.

What did the judges have to say?

A simple concept executed to an outstanding level. The opening experience is spectacular and structurally, it’s incredibly well thought through. The interplay between the 3D topography, colour choices, finishes and structural design is superb. It brings the entire pack to life in a way that’s both playful and refined. The move away from rigid flag motifs and straight lines towards a more organic, flower-inspired pattern feels fresh
and perfectly aligned with the overall concept. Every element has been considered, there’s no wasted space, just a compact, cohesive design that works beautifully inside and out.
