What can I enter?
Entries can be submitted in four categories:
- Creative Cartonboard Packaging Food & Drink
- Creative Cartonboard Packaging All Others – excluding Food & Drink
- Creative Cartonboard Ideas
- Save the Planet
In addition to these four category winners, consumers will also have the opportunity to vote to select the winner of the Public Award.
How to enter – new entry procedure:
We have made the entry procedure easier and cost saving (mailing costs) for the students and design schools:
From this year, the initial submission should be made on-line and you will only need to send your physical 3D cartonboard design when it has been confirmed that you have made it onto the shortlist. Students that do not make it to the shortlist will not have to send in their physical designs/prototypes/dummies for the jury meeting.
Step 1: Create your design idea:
- must be three-dimensional, true to scale, regardless of their actual size and use
- must be made mainly of cartonboard (over 200 g/m2)
- be folded and possibly glued
Step 2: Online entry – promote your design:
- Take 3-5 photos of your design
- Describe your design concept in max. 100 words
- Please keep in mind that your photos and texts:
- are the basic information for the judging and
- will be used for the public voting, social media, etc., if you are a finalist.
- Deadline: May, 17th 2019. All entries need to be uploaded by this date. Every entrant receives a confirmation e-mail following the upload. Entries should be submitted when they are ready, do NOT wait until the last day. Entries can be submitted now!
The on-line entries will judged to create a shortlist of designs that will go forward to the final judging. We will contact all selected designers via e-mail. Please keep an eye on your inbox for the notification e-mail!

Step 3: Physical entry of the selected designs:
- If you receive an email confirming that you have been successfully shortlisted then send us your physical 3D prototype together with:
- a copy of the entry form so we can identify your physical entry
- a description, on one A4 page, must accompany all 3D samples.
The Deadline for receipt of your physical designs is June 3rd 2019. They should be securely packed and sent to:

- Please make sure your physical entries arrive in time. Entries that arrive later than June 3rd unfortunately cannot be considered for the judging.
The entry can be returned to the entrant upon special request and at their own cost and risk. Make sure to communicate your request in advance.
Following the jury meeting:
- The selection for the public voting (max. 25 designs) for the Public Award will be published and widely communicated
- 10 finalists will be chosen by the judges and the successful students and their teachers will be invited to the prize giving ceremony on 19th September in Malta
Step 4: Public Voting – your second chance – vote and promote
- Share, like, promote your design with your friends, colleagues, family, etc.
- The winner of the Public Award will win an iPad
Award Gala:
- The announcement of the winners will be published at midnight on September 19th on all our media channels
Who can participate?
The competition is aimed at all design students in Europe who are not working as professionals. They must not have completed their studies before the summer of 2019 (proof is to be supplied with the entry, e.g. student enrolment document). An entry gives the organisers the right to showcase the submitted concepts in a public exhibition, including publication, promotion and documentation of the competition.
What can I win?
- For the 4 category winners – The main prize for the category winners is a visit to the Stora Enso Mill in Sweden plus practical training at the international carton converter AR Packaging.
- The 10 finalists (4 winners and the other 6 finalists) together with their teachers: An invitation to the award ceremony at the international ECMA Congress in Malta (maximum one person plus one teacher per entry) – travel expenses and accommodation all borne by Pro Carton.
- A trophy and certificate
- The winner of the Public Award will win an iPad.
- International publicity and recognition
There will be one award winner for each category plus an additional six finalists.
Where and when can I enter?

What does entry cost?
Participation is free of charge. The organisers are not responsible for the submitted materials.
How does the jury work?
The jury consists of designers, brand owners, retailers as well as manufacturers of cartonboard and cartons. This ensures that the needs of the entire Supply Chain are taken into consideration.
Members of the jury, their relatives and the organisers are excluded from participating in the competition. Pro Carton retains the right to use all entries for public relations purposes. The decisions of the jury are final.
How does the public voting work?
Following the jury meeting early in June, the selected designs (max. 25) will be presented on a voting page on this website. Furthermore all selected designs will be promoted on our Social Media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
One vote can be cast per day. The voting ends on 10th September 2019. Users trying to manipulate this limit will be excluded.
The winner of the public voting will receive an iPad (Wi-Fi, 128GB) and a certificate as the public’s favourite.
Multiple wins are not possible. The organiser’s decision is final. Prizes cannot be redeemed in cash.
The organisers will not pass on personal data nor disclose addresses to third parties.
