The AB InBev Leffe Beer Multipack with Two-Piece Technology is a major packaging innovation responding to Europe’s rising demand for plastic-free beverage solutions. While many in the industry have phased out plastic rings and shrink wrap, heavy bottle multipacks have remained a challenge. Graphic Packaging International’s two-piece design marks a breakthrough for 20x330ml glass bottles, eliminating plastic-reinforced handles in favour of a fully paperboard alternative. Crafted from renewable wood-based fibre and capable of including up to 30% recycled content in the handle insert, the solution supports AB InBev’s target to make 100% of its packaging returnable or majority recycled by 2025.
Engineered for strength with minimal material, the design features an independently reinforced handle, allowing for a lower overall paperboard calliper without compromising durability. It runs efficiently on AB InBev’s existing machinery, avoiding the need for retooling or new investment.
Consumer testing shows a strong preference for multipacks with integrated handles, and this solution delivers on both comfort and confidence when carrying. Fully recyclable in household waste streams, the pack is a compelling blend of sustainability, technical excellence and consumer appeal.
