It was a really educational and valuable trip. Seeing how recovered cartonboard is made in the factory step by step and experiencing the atmosphere was unique. At Emskirchen, they prepared a workshop for us. We designed our own packaging for the example products. They let us observe how our packaging is folded and glued in machines and also every other process. I am very satisfied and delighted to have had this opportunity thanks to Pro Carton and WEIG Group.
Practical Training Days 2023
As the main prize for the Pro Carton Young Designers Award (PCYDA) 2023, the 5 category winners will be travelling to leading European cartonboard manufacturing mills and folding carton producers for a unique learning opportunity.
In 2023, the winners will travel to Turkey to see the world class manufacturing sites of Kartonsan and Duran Dogan.
As a main prize winner, the young designers will attend 2/3 Practical Training Days at our sponsors’ facilities in Turkey.
The winners will meet some of the leaders in the cartonboard industry, they will learn first-hand about cartonboard and the industry, network among the best and be exposed to exclusive industry processes – definitely something to add to their lifetime experience and to their CVs!
The PCYDA 2023 winners will learn a lot about creating sustainable packaging for leading brands on a huge scale and will gain priceless insights into packaging expertise and may even come out with some useful contacts to help kickstart their careers. We would like to thank Kartonsan and Duran Dogan once again for their sponsorship of PCYDA 2023 and for organising such an unforgettable experience for the winners.

Testimonials
The training days were really great. In Mayen, we had lectures about who exactly WEIG is and how paper and cartonboard are produced. We were given a very detailed tour of the factory and were able to see every single work process with our own eyes. In the evening we were always taken out for dinner. Mr Roland Rex also joined us at the Vulkan Brewery on Tuesday and held two lectures during our time with WEIG. On Wednesday we travelled to Emskirchen. There we were also guided through the factory and could see in detail how packaging is produced. We also designed our own packaging. All in all, a lot of effort was made to give us a lot of content in the best possible and practical way. It was a great time!
Everything was at the highest level!
I really enjoyed the week with WEIG. I experienced a lot and was able to learn some new things. In particular, my view of folding boxes has deepened and I perceive them differently. It is definitely good input. It was also nice to meet the other participants again!
