I Have Nuts®Official name of entry:I Have Nuts®Designer(s):Isabel Laugerud Tabarini, Nancy Paulina Nieto, Fernanda MadrigalContact:firstname.lastname@example.org
Nutrition for athletes
„I Have Nuts“ is an organic and balanced trail mix for athletes, packed into two separate compartments with pre- and post-workout blends. Its pocket size makes it perfect to carry during training. In addition, the packaging is completely made of 100% recyclable materials! The vibrant colour palette brings joviality and playfulness to emphasize the double meaning behind the brand’s name. Experience the power of unboxing this product and show us that you’ve got the nuts. Break it open and enjoy!
Isabel Laugerud Tabarini: “Normally you have a high calorie bar before training and then a high protein bar shortly after you have finished. I thought about one single package that could provide me with both. The biggest challenge during the development of the structural design of the package was to achieve the greatest simplicity, not only in terms of design but also with regard to the manufacture process of a single pack with dual (yet independent) compartments. The Pro Carton Young Designers Award allows me to create and share this idea through an international network that welcomes innovation.”
In the first instance this is a very attractive pack, structurally and graphically. But coupled to that is the marketing concept of nutrition for athletes where balanced nutrition is provided in each half the pack to be consumed pre and post activity. This concept is well executed by the pack design. So much so that the whole could even be marketable and commercialised.
Off The HookOfficial name of entry:Off The HookDesigner(s):Sarah StroblContact:email@example.com
Eight individual coat hangers can be torn off from the folded and perforated model. The hangers are handy and can be used in multiple ways, whether by children, students or business travellers. The coat hangers’ surface is perfectly suited for the production of different versions on varying themes (e.g. a sports themed version).
Sarah Strobl: “The real value of the Award lies in showing me that I am capable of designing ideas that are appreciated outside my usual environment. I truly enjoyed working on this project, it was simply wonderful to be able to try something new. Both the Award and my project give me the feeling that I have already come one step closer to the designer I want to become and for that I am really grateful.”
Whilst this concept of a clothes hanger might need some development, the judges really appreciated the thought of the idea, particularly as a quantity of the hangers are attached to each other and as many can be separated as needed according to the strength needed according to the clothing item. Simple and effective.
Paper Bow TieOfficial name of entry:Paper Bow TieDesigner(s):Franz MühringerContact:firstname.lastname@example.org
The idea was to create a bow tie out of a single piece of carton which fits onto an A4 sheet with no sticking necessary. The product should be an invitation to the next Pro Carton event. In addition it could be sold as an accessory or to advertise shirts in a store.
Franz Mühringer: “I’d like to thank Pro Carton for this great opportunity. The competition was a lot of fun. Special thanks go to my teacher Franz König who supported me during the production of the bow tie with his expertise.”
Good seed makes a good life!Official name of entry: Good seed makes a good life!
Designer(s): Magdalena Witkowicz
Healthy meals every dayA reusable package set for edible seeds such as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds and flaxseed. This modern package is designed to convince everyone that eating seeds not only provides us with health benefits, such as a slim body, beautiful skin, strong hair and nails, heart disease prevention and support for our nervous system, but it can also be fun to use and easy to store seeds. The diamond-shape which the packaging acquires once closed is easily stored in sets of four which reflects the four natural elements. Taking the seeds out of the ordinary and transforming them into "natural jewels" makes them a perfect gift.
Magdalena Witkowicz: "The first challenge was to create a shape for the pack that would express the appropriate emotions and associations. The dosage system also proved to be a big challenge – with a surface wide enough to dose the seeds conveniently and without tearing the carton. The Pro Carton Young Designers Award is a great opportunity to meet important people from all over Europe in the Packaging and Carton industry. I would love to work in the packaging industry."
Herbal CornerOfficial name of entry: Herbal Corner
Designer(s): Stephanie Vetter
Growing kitchen herbs at homeHerbal Corner is the new and easy way to grow culinary herbs at home. Just open up the package and add some water. The seeds are already included, so, with some love and care, you will be able to grow your own basil, mint, parsley and cress right in your home kitchen.
Stephanie Vetter: "I really liked the idea of snapping the cartonboard-packaging open to reveal the inside. I also liked the idea of growing plants straight out of the packaging. After that, one thing led to another and the "herbal corner" was born. I think it's a fantastic experience being able to take part in the Pro Carton Young Designers Award, and to learn so much from this whole event. Given the fact that I have just graduated, it really makes starting my career a lot easier."
Innobox - The Innovative ShoeboxOfficial name of entry: Innobox - The Innovative Shoebox
Designer(s): Julia Kauer, Gerfried Pietsch, Sebastian Schober, Adrian Strobl
A revolutionary shoe cartonInnobox was established in the course of a school project at the Vienna Graphic School and aims to upgrade the conventional shoe box. The outcome of the project is a revolutionary kind of shoe package in a way that has never been seen before. A completely new and innovative opening mechanism and a unique industrial design turn the package into a total eye-catcher. Another feature of this high-end-package is the extraordinary cold foil stamping print finishing technology.
Adrian Strobl: "The biggest challenge was to create the push-down opening mechanism using nothing but cartonboard. We wanted to build a stunning and high quality product, yet keep the construction simple and use resources efficiently. The next challenge will be to bring innobox to the market. And the Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2016 will help us to spread the word and meet specialists from across the industry."
