The books provide a comprehensive insight into the enormous creative potential of the material and reveal how paper and cartonboard are firing up the imaginations of today's designers and artists. While the most obvious technique, origami, has been around for hundreds of years, advances in mathematics have allowed for evermore-intricate folding patterns.
Design and Art with Paper and Cartonboard In a time where everything is digitalised, paper and cartonboard are gaining momentum as an antipode to the infinite flexibility of bit-based reproduction. Publisher Robert Klanten: "Paper and cartonboard are arguably the most important materials of our civilisation. Today, the material is enjoying something of a renaissance among young artists and designers worldwide as an experimental material for design."
"Faced with society's universal yearning for authenticity, for personal touches among mass-produced perfection, big brands welcome paper- and cartonboard-based communication measures as an ingenious means to differentiate their own product form the almost indistinguishable competition."
Exceptionally creative works show what can be done with the fascinating material cartonboard, they spur ideas and encourage the development of new structural and graphic design ideas. An unrivalled example was the Carton-Smart, prize winner at the Pro Carton ECMA Awards 2011.
